CCR marked November 16 by bringing migrant workers, union leaders, and advocates to the University of Winnipeg for the Migrant Workers Forum, “Voices of Resistance: Shaping the Future of Migrant Work.” Gauri Sreenivasan and Diana Gallego opened by naming Bill C-12 as a direct threat to migrants and calling for unified resistance to anti-migrant narratives. Speakers from Migrante Canada, DTMF, Amnesty International, UFCW, and RATTMAQ joined migrant workers in recounting lived experiences of labour abuse, and the afternoon’s workshops translated those stories into action: a national day of action, a media strategy to push back on anti-immigrant rhetoric, and continued advocacy for open work permits and permanent residency pathways.
