CANADIAN GOVERNMENT SHOULD RESETTLE PALESTINIAN REFUGEES FORCED OUT OF IRAQ

The Canadian Council for Refugees today called publicly on the federal government to resettle some of the Palestinian refugees forced out of Iraq but denied asylum anywhere else.  The refugees are stranded in dangerous camps on the Syria-Iraq border, waiting for a country to accept them for resettlement.

Canadian groups ready to welcome refugees resettled from Guantanamo

 

The Canadian Council for Refugees called today on the Canadian government to resettle without delay some of the detainees in Guantanamo who cannot safely return to their home countries.  A number of groups have shown their willingness to welcome these refugees by submitting applications on their behalf.

Supreme Court Denial of Leave on Safe Third Regretted

The decision of the Supreme Court of Canada not to grant leave in the case challenging the Canada-U.S. Safe Third Country Agreement was met with regret today by the Canadian Council for Refugees, Amnesty International and the Canadian Council of Churches.
