Model for CBSA accountability mechanism recommended 

The Canadian Council for Refugees today released a proposed model for an external accountability mechanism for the Canada Border Services Agency. The proposal was sent to Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Ralph Goodale last week.

Supreme Court decision on humanitarian decisions welcomed

The Canadian Council for Refugees welcomes the Supreme Court decision rendered today clarifying how immigration officers should decide applications for humanitarian and compassionate (H&C) consideration. Many refugees and vulnerable migrants must rely on H&C provisions in order to remain in Canada or to be reunited with family members.

Conditional Permanent Residence: Failure in Policy and Practice

Three years after the introduction of Conditional Permanent Residence for some sponsored spouses, the Canadian Council for Refugees (CCR) concludes that the measure has increased the vulnerability of many sponsored newcomers, particularly victims of domestic violence.  The CCR bases its conclusion on consultation with over 140 organizations across Canada.
